The "Heights" or Jersey City Heights is a district in the north end of Jersey City, New Jersey atop the New

Jersey Palisades overlooking Hoboken to the east and the Meadowlands to the west. The southern border of

The Heights is generally considered to be north of Bergen Arches and The Divided Highway (RT 39), while Paterson Plank Road in Washington Park abutting Union City is its main northern boundary. The Heights retains much of its small-town character with most structures being two- and three-family houses and a few low-rise apartment buildings.  The lack of high-rise and large density buildings gives The Heights a unique feel compared to other districts in Jersey City. Additionally, The Heights retains many stately Victorian and Edwardian homes, particularly along Summit Avenue and Sherman Place.

Central Avenue bisects the district and is its primary commercial thoroughfare.  The City has designated Central as the next Restaurant Overlay Zone, paving the way for a host of new shops, restaurants and bars.   A few blocks East, Palisade Avenue traces the cliffs over Hoboken and is also experience a renaissance, highlighted by new residential structures, intertwined with retail and office space.

Although The Heights does not have a dedicated PATH train station, it offers some of the best access to public transportation and highways of any Hudson County District.  With its "grid" style streetscape, residents are never more than a few blocks from a NJ Transit Bus Stop.  With multiple lines providing direct access to Manhattan's Port Authority Terminal, most addresses in The Heights boast a travel time to Midtown of less than 20 minutes.   

 

At the North (Congress St) and Southern (2nd St) ends of the District you'll find the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, with direct service to Hoboken Terminal, Downtown Jersey City, NY Waterway Ferries and more.  If you're commute involves a drive, The Heights offers easy access to all major highways by way of numerous entrance points.  And of course, with the advent of ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft, you can be picked up to travel anywhere on a moment's notice.
